CEROC
NORTH HARBOUR
LEARN "MODERN JIVE" THE EASY WAY
So
what is Ceroc?
Ceroc (pronounced "say-roc") is a funky partner dance done to top 20 and
nightclub music.(you
can do it to anything with a good dance beat).
The idea is that you can learn a partner dance that you can dance at parties
and nightclubs.
Partners are not necessary, as we swap everyone during class, and you
can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.
Beginners classes are constantly running. A new routine is taught in each
class each night. You can do any beginners class each week - or more than
one if you want to learn quickly.
No harm is done if you miss a week.
What
Dance Experience do I need?
None whatsoever! We warmly welcome people with no dance experience. Classes
are designed to be easy and fun to learn, if you are utterly terrified,
consider having a private session first. If you are an experienced dancer
please try a beginners class first and consult your teacher about moving
up to intermediate.
What
is Freestyling?
Freestyling
is dancing "off the cuff".
Once the men have built up a repertoire of Ceroc moves, they then practice
changing the order as they lead.
What
is the history of Ceroc?
Ceroc
(from the French C'est Roc) developed in France from the jive that the
GI's taught the French during the second world war. In the early 1970's
a Frenchman, James Cronin started classes in London which are now enormously
successful.
Angelique Meyer, the founder of Ceroc in NZ, whilst living in London,
attended classes for a few years and trained to teach. Returning to New
Zealand she started teaching in Auckland in 1988. In 1990 Ceroc was established
and Ceroc New Zealand has never looked back. Ceroc is also taught in Australia
To
learn Ceroc you don't need experience or a partner - just a willingness
to have fun with it. It is an easy dance to learn, as it has little footwork
to concentrate on. Before long you will find that you can dance and have
fun almost anywhere to almost any music!
Ceroc is a great way to meet new people, and develop new skills - come
along and see what we mean !
